The Opportunity

As Centre Manager you are considered an integral component in expanding and maintaining the YMCA’s reach in the Port Hawkesbury community and surrounding areas as a top provider of health, wellness, youth development programming. Specifically you will,

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all Centre operational and program areas
  • Work to expand the YMCA’s reach in the community and champion the spirit of philanthropy in the Region
  • Ensure consistent delivery of quality individual, youth, and family programming including Group Fitness, Before/After School, summer day camp and wellness programming
  • Ensure accessibility of our programming regardless of circumstance
  • Provide front-line support to members and direct delivery of Group Fitness classes
  • Establish collaborative, service-oriented partnerships with the community, external agencies, and organizations.
  • Complete Association program reporting and financial activities to support efficient operations that comply with YMCA and provincial requirements

You Bring

  • Degree/Diploma in Business Administration, Human Services, or related field
  • 2 years in Member Relations or General Management or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Previous YMCA experience an asset
  • Proven track record of success in community oriented program delivery
  • Proven track record of building high performance teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and establish rapport
  • Experience in Fundraising or non-profit sector is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to adapt to new software
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours required

Duties

Under the general direction of the Area Manager, the Clerk 4 provides a broad range of administrative, financial, organizational and clerical support duties to the Area Manager and other DNR staff within the Area. The incumbent will oversee daily financial and procurement services for the Area office, prepare and process payments and approvals of all invoices, departmental purchase orders, journal vouchers, and petty cash statements.  They will prepare payroll, reconciliation, and assist the Area Manager in preparing accurate budget forecasting. Other common administrative functions may include, but are not limited to maintaining local records within the Star/Store System format, and coordinating license data entry into the Wildlife Resources System. The Clerk 4 provides administrative support to the Area Manager, Conservation Officers, Surveyors and Forest Technicians. They also act as a backup for secretarial duties in the office, responding to inbound calls and providing general assistance to client reception, including the sale of permits and licenses as required and according to policies.

Qualifications

Five years’ related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

  • Must be proficient in office software with proven experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and web based applications.

Duties

Under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor(s) and/or Supervisor(s) of Highway Maintenance, the successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient flow of communications to ensure the efficient dispatch of human, material and equipment resources during winter snow and ice control activities.  The incumbent  answers and logs all telephone calls coming into the Base/Dispatch office, provides the public with information respecting department policy, resolves routine customer complaints, updates electronic Road Condition Reporting System, maintains daily log records for Equipment Operator work hours for the purpose of callout, determines and records vehicle material payloads from truck weigh scales, ensures Equipment Operators are dispatched to proper plow routes, monitors the location of all Equipment Operators during storm conditions through radio contact/AVL monitoring and initiates emergency response procedures as required in consultation with the supervisor on duty.

The incumbent  is also responsible for the general maintenance of the base by performing janitorial or maintenance duties on an as required basis and other related duties as identified by Supervisor(s).  Work is performed in an office environment of an operations base which may be occasioned by diesel fumes from equipment, noise and dust, with some outside work performed in varying weather conditions.  Shift work is required.

The successful candidate may also be required to perform the duties of other job positions as outlined in Group I of the CUPE Collective Agreement for which they are qualified.

Qualifications

Grade 11 commercial course, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.  The incumbent must be able to work with minimum supervision, possess strong oral and written communication skills, good administrative skills with a mathematical aptitude, and experience working around heavy equipment.  Computer literacy and knowledge of the geographical base and Department policies and procedures would be considered assets.  Training and/or certification in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, First Aid and CPR, are also assets.

Special Statement

Shift work is required.  This opportunity is for a 17-week Winter Works Period position. Applicants who are successful in a Winter Works Period opportunity are required to be available at all times and guaranteed a minimum ninety (90) hours for every two calendar weeks during the Winter Works period. For all employees on the Winter Wage Guarantee, the regular hourly rate will include a winter premium of per hour throughout the Winter Works period.

The mandate of the Cape Breton Family Resource Coalition is “families working together to build healthier families”.  We work to enhance the health and well being of families with young children (newborn to sixteen years of age, along with expectant parents).  We are currently seeking highly motivated, self-directed applicants who are interested in becoming part of our Island-wide team, working in an accepting, non-judgmental work environment.

Community Home Visitor (Part Time – 3 Days Per Week) – Cape Breton Regional Municipality

Community Home Visitors perform duties to support the goals and objectives of the Enhanced Home Visiting Program in their respective areas, as assigned.  The Healthy Beginnings Enhanced Home Visiting Program is offered to families that are identified through an assessment process led by Public Health Services.  This assessment identifies families who may potentially benefit from enhanced home visiting during the first three years of their child’s life.  The program uses a family–centered, strengths-based approach. Community Home Visitors assist families with goal planning using this approach as well as  providing emotional and practical supports, role modeling, parenting information, general health information, referrals to other agencies and organizations who may be able to provide supports, assistance with family goal setting and achievement of these goals.  Duties and Responsibilities include work in the areas of community home visiting, program promotion and referral, professional development, administration, reporting, and evaluation.

Qualifications

1.  Education and Experience

  • High School diploma;
  • Previous experience working with or connecting with families and/or young children;
  • Additional training in early childhood development would be an asset;
  • Some knowledge of government and community-based programs and services that relate to the intended population’s needs; and
  • A willingness to become certified in safe food handling, WHMIS, Emergency First Aid and Infant/Child CPR.
