Cape Breton Regional Library is seeking a student to work as a Rural Outreach Assistant in Baddeck Library this summer!.

Job title: Rural Outreach Assistant

Duration: 12 Weeks, 35 hours/week

Wage: $14/hour

Start & End Dates: June 3/19- August 23/19

Job Location: Baddeck, Nova Scotia

The Cape Breton Regional Library requires a Rural Outreach Assistant for a 12-week summer project at the Cape Breton Regional Library in Baddeck. During the summer, the student will work with library staff to develop an outreach project for Victoria County.

The ideal candidate must:

* be enrolled in a university arts program

* have excellent written, oral and people skills

* have accurate and strong attention to detail

* work well in a multi-task environment

* be able to work alone or as part of a team

* enjoy meeting and working with new people

Tasks & Responsibilities:

The Rural Outreach Assistant will be working with Library staff in Baddeck on the planning and implementation of the new Victoria County Outreach Service and will help library staff develop Cultural Experience Kits. The Rural Outreach Assistant will help with identifying potential outreach partners and venues for the new service, and through festival and event exhibits they will share with community members current Library offerings and identify future possibilities for Library collaboration in the community. The student will work out of Baddeck Library and travel with Library staff to multiple communities in Victoria County.

  • Create and work closely with tourism stakeholder committees to establish tourism development priorities in the short and long term.
  • Coordinate existing tourism strategies and plans and implement these initiatives which are linked to the Municipality and community goals.
  • Research and compile current government tourism programs and policies and to inform stakeholders of the same.
  • Assist with special projects for the Municipality.

Education and Experience: An undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines:  Business, Tourism and Hospitality Management, or acceptable combination of education and experience.  At least two years’ experience in the tourism industry, or event planning required.
